Dear all,
This coming Saturday at 8pm UK time, I will be holding another Wendell Berry Reading Group session on Zoom. This time around, we will be discussing Mr. Berry’s essay Why I am not Going to Buy A Computer.
I want us to spend half of our time discussing the essay, especially Mr. Berry’s nine standards of technological innovation and the question “was Mr. Berry right not to buy a computer?” Then in the second half of the session, we can discuss how we can apply Mr. Berry’s thought and principles to our own use (or disuse!) of technology.
As the comments to my last post about this session demonstrated, we all have diverse and sometimes conflicting opinions about this essay. And I stress that I want to hear from both techno-sceptics and techno-optimists at this session. I believe that both viewpoints can benefit tremendously from hearing each other’s perspectives.
The Zoom links are below for paid subscribers and patrons. But in the meantime, here are some essays on the topic of techno-scepticism that I have written in the past.
