"it was made in our fallen image after all"

And, like the fallen image, it is here to stay. A culture that has embraced the "facts" of atheism, evolution, greenism, nonbinary sexism, and other progressive programs, when supercharged with AI will produce a dystopia that will be the end of humanity. The Malthusian urge to 'save' the planet by drastic reduction of population is an inevitable consequence of atheism.

You are very much right, Jesse, that this beast is here to stay. Which is a sobering thought - as once it is released into the wild there is no going back (and the power it offers is too tempting and too great for the powerful to bring it to an end). A precautionary principle approach would never have let this happen - but we are not good as a culture at self-control or denial.

What comes to mind is the outworking of Nietzsche’s “stare long enough into the abyss, and the abyss stares back into you”

We become what we truly attend to

This was always the flaw with the Turing test. Become like the AI, and there is no longer any difference. The highly reductionist version of ‘human’ which AI works on reduces us.
