Against The Machine Reading Group
Dates and times for the new reading group
Dear readers,
Thank you for all those who have shown an interest in the Against the Machine Reading Group which I am running next year for all Paid Subscribers in addition to my Wendell Berry Reading Group. And thank you especially to those who have offered feedback on the timings and format; I have taken those into consideration in my plans below.
In light of the feedback and the timings poll (which was fairly evenly split), I have decided to revise the format. I will be offering three concurrent groups:
Deep dive group: one chapter per session; every three weeks at 8:30 PM UK Time (Thursdays).
Overview group One: 3-4 chapters per session; once every three months 11:30 PM UK Time (Thursdays).
Overview group Two: 3-4 chapters per session; once every three months 8:30 PM UK Time (Thursdays).
The schedule for Term One (January-March) is as follows:
Deep Dive Group (8:30 PM UK Time)
15th January: The Dream of the Rood
5th February: The Great Unsettling
26th February: The Faustian Fire
19th March: Blanched Sun, Blinded Man
Overview Group One (11:30 PM UK Time)
12th February: The Dream of the Rood; The Great Unsettling; The Faustian Fire
Overview Group Two (8:30 PM UK Time)
12th March: The Dream of the Rood; The Great Unsettling; The Faustian Fire
As this is a lot of sessions and a lot of work for me, I will only hold all three groups if there is enough interest. Thus, it would really help if all those wanting to join a session could let me know in the poll below AND also in the comments section below.
There is still plenty of time for new participants to join/register interest by becoming a paid subscriber.
I know these times and dates might not work for all those wishing to join — I have tried my best to accommodate my geographically diverse readership. However, I have also created an online chat group that will be used to discuss the book which all my paid subscribers can join. I am also willing to hold one-on-one sessions discussing the book for those who cannot make the sessions. A paid subscription to Over the Field also means you can access my paywalled agrarian reflections, get early access to my long form essays, and also access to my Wendell Berry Reading Group.
