For a while now, I have wanted to branch out into some poetry. My highest marks in English at school were for my poetry — it seemed to come naturally to me (but my inaptitude with capital letters and punctuation, the bane of my English teachers life, is another story). A few readers have also been kind to comment that I have a poetic style in my essays, so I guess the poet in me is trying to break forth in to verse and stanza — and I should probably let it do so.
Essays will continue to be the bulk of my writing here on Over the Field, but from time to time, I will publish Anthologies from the Field, sets of three (or four) poems of varying lengths and styles that will mostly be of the same broad theme. The first poem will be free for everyone — the second and third will be for paid subscribers only as a way of supporting the development of my essays and writing in general.
In each anthology I will also hold a competition for readers to send in their poems on the theme for the following anthology. The best one or two will be featured in the free section of Anthologies from the Field alongside a link to the additional work/writing of the selected poems authors.
The full list of Anthologies can be found on this page below.
